Hello and welcome back to this Stop Smoking Audio series,

Hello again and here is a quick tip which is:

•  Extremely effective in strengthening your determination

•  Boosts your self-image as a non-smoker, and also….

•  A great tester to keep a check on where your mind is as the days and weeks pass by after you stop smoking….

After you quit the habit, you will no doubt be avoiding all the places and situations which cause you to think of smoking. This is a personal choice, but I would say not to do this. My advice would be to take a deep breath and hit those places first. Go and do the things that fill you with fear and confront all those things as early as possible. Of course it is your choice and we are all different. Some may find they just want to avoid these times until their strength builds gradually, and that is fine.

Either way, when in these situations or indeed any situation, you WILL most likely be offered a cigarette by someone. It is bound to happen. If it already has happened and you (obviously!) said NO, then ask yourself what exact words came out of your mouth when you declined the offer of a smoke. Did you say one of these common answers:

•  “Oh No thanks, I am trying to quit”

•  “I would love to, but I am supposed to be giving up”

•  “I would have done a few weeks ago, but I recently decided to try to quit”

•  Or Something similar

If you did then your mind has NOT completed the transformation to NON smoker and you need to take action immediately.

This is the tip for this week…challenge yourself to see if you can get yourself into a situation where someone offers you a cigarette, maybe in a bar or restaurant or similar place where people are allowed to smoke, and then see if you can say one of these answers instead:

•  “No I don't smoke”

•  “No I wouldn't touch those things, thanks anyway”

•  “Are you kidding?! Those things kill people!”

I know it sounds outrageous, but I have had people say things like that to me many many times when I was a smoker and I offered someone a cigarette. The type of people who answer like that are totally committed non-smokers, even perhaps anti-smoking in a big way. I want you to see if you can sit with smokers, people who never knew you before you gave up smoking, and I want you to come across as ANTI smoking, and see how you feel.

Forget about getting under someone's skin, they are smokers, it doesn't take much to get under their skin anyway!! Especially when you tell them how you are doing what they secretly wish they could do and LIVE WITHOUT TOBACCO!

Give it a try, email us with your experiences so we can share them with our other members. Don't get into any arguments (I feel a disclaimer coming on!) but just see if you can act out the part of one of those people you used to hate, the ones who looked down on your for smoking, or at the very least, someone who would not dream of smoking. See how it feels to tell people you are a NON smoker, DO NOT tell them you are an Ex Smoker because that is nicotine talking, it is giving you something in common with that person who smokes because nicotine knows that if you get close enough, you will get more tempted and it won't take much for you to give in. But we know better don't we?!
