Text Version: Hello and welcome back to this Stop Smoking Audio series, ‘ A Promise You Could Never Break' This tip is extremely effective, and in fact I have made it number one because it was probably, no, DEFINITELY the most powerful technique I used which made damn sure I didn't touch another cigarette, especially during the hardest times shortly after quitting. Choose a loved one, such as your husband or wife, your mother or sister etcetera. Make sure it is someone you speak to regularly, ideally on a daily basis, and it needs to be someone who trusts you fully, and who you trust fully too. Approach that person when they least expect it, (not when you are talking about smoking), sit them down and explain to them how you are going to quit smoking permanently on a particular day. Tell them that you are making them a solemn promise and you want to prove to them that you have the integrity, strength and determination to nurture that promise and ensure it is not broken, no matter what. If you choose the right person and say this correctly with sincerity, you will feel the power immediately, because will know that this promise can NOT be broken, ever. Doing this will place a kind of failsafe system around you which will cause you to stop in your tracks and think long and hard before you go near cigarettes again. Even if you decide (which you won't) that you can't resist the temptation for some reason and you pick up a cigarette, believe me you will STOP before you light it and wonder how the hell you will explain to that person who you respect so much, that you are so weak-willed and able to break a solemn promise within days of making it, and you made the promise voluntarily. I hope you can see the power of this idea, if you can't then I would ask you to please just TRY it, at worst it will only be a few minutes of your time wasted but I know it will help you, and it may just make all the difference. Believe me, if you are ready to quit, you are ready to make this solemn promise to someone who you would not want to let down and this will help you at those hard times when you feel like smoking, the extra deterrent of having to tell that person you broke your word could very easily be the extra bit of ammunition you need at that moment to get through it. All you need is to get through those rare very down moments and they are over as quick as they arrive, and if you get through just a few, you will keep going and before you know it, months have passed and you have not even thought of smoking. In my own case, I made this promise to my 3 year old boy. He could understand that tobacco is bad and he always told me off for smoking saying “Daddy that's bad for you”. So when I made him the promise and I said I would ‘never ever ever' smoke again, he knew what I meant. It was easy after that, there was no way I could tell this boy that his daddy was a liar and a failure, and to a boy of that age, that is precisely what I would have been! So, please, just try doing this when you decide to quit. It is not about one magic cure to quit smoking, it is about getting a few things in place which will help you when you need it most, and then just gather your reasons together and DECIDE to quit. After a week to two weeks you will start to feel better and better and you will never go back. Choose someone you respect and trust, and Make That Promise TODAY. Then all you have to do is stick to it, if not for yourself, for THEM.
