There are several things that you will begin to notice almost immediately after you first quit the habit. These are great changes that you should focus on to help keep you going as a non-smoker. One of the first differences I recall from when I quit smoking is that I just plain felt better as a whole. I didn't cough all the time, I had more energy, I slept better and as such I really felt that I looked better. This increased my self-esteem which is something that you cannot measure but trust me it made a difference. In addition to the obvious changes, you will benefit from better breath and you will no longer smell like an ashtray.

 

As you progress as a non-smoker you will likely find that the smell of smoke on others is a big turn off and you will notice that their breath isn't so great either. I got to the point where now I can't imagine smelling like a smoker or having that disgusting breath. There is one other huge benefit to quitting smoking, money. If you don't believe that it will be that much money why not call your insurance agent and ask him the difference in premium between a smoker and non-smoker.
