“Smoking Alternatives” I think that at some point in everyone's journey to quit smoking they inevitably try some sort of smoking alternative or nicotine replacement. I did it, you will probably try it too. Most people go quickly to the nicotine gum and think that they will chew their way to freedom from smoking. Never mind that nicotine gum tastes awful; it is also just a nicotine replacement. This means that you are not dealing with the addiction to nicotine, just replacing it with something else. Nicotine by itself is the main harmful ingredient in smoking. I am not saying that chewing the gum is the same as smoking; that is not the case at all. However, by using the gum you are continuing your addiction to nicotine and that really doesn't get you where you want to be.
The patches do pretty much the same thing as the nicotine gum, you are still not getting rid of the addictive substance. The point is, in order to be successful you must end your addiction to nicotine, period. The only way to do this is to try using something that doesn't include nicotine. Try using just plain gum. Maybe you should just chew on a toothpick. Use whatever makes you get past the craving and move on. Save yourself some expense and try to quit without these “crutches” that just prolong your addiction to the nicotine. You and your wallet will thank me when it works.
