Introduction – Part 3

The phrase ‘Carpe Diem' is Latin and as you may know it means “Seize the Day”. Maybe that should be your guiding thought, but whatever you decide to use, remember the fact that every single day that has passed in your life until today, you can never ever change a single one of them. You can't adjust them even slightly, they are set in stone along with the actions and decisions you took at each point in the history of your life.

As for the future, well you can't do a damn thing to change the course of tomorrow either, or next week or next year. In fact the only thing you have any control over is TODAY. The only time you really have on this earth is RIGHT NOW, this very minute, this very hour of this single day in your life. What you do or do not do today is up to you, but remember when you wake in the morning of tomorrow, that today will be another day you set in stone as a day you can never ever change, as long as you live. It's a scary thought really isn't it! And so it should be, because the really happy and contented people in this life are those people who never waste a second, and never shy away from a decision or a chance to make sure they have no regrets in the future. This is the key to happiness, knowing you wouldn't have had it any other way, and with this in mind, we have found the reason that ALL smokers are doomed to eternal unhappiness. The reason is - REGRET. There is not one single smoker on the planet who wouldn't take a magic pill which could go back in time and prevent them ever trying cigarettes, magically and instantly making them a lifelong NON-smoker. Why? Because there isn't a single smoker who actually wants to smoke. Nobody wants to smoke, and anybody who says they do is in DENIAL, and they are afraid to admit that they are too weak to give it up, so it is easier for them to say they don't want to give up than to admit being a failure, but you offer them one of those magic pills and see how quick they swallow it.

Do you want to be a lifelong loser, doomed to misery due to your many regrets and wishing you could change your past, and quite likely DIE as well, as a result of your weakness or fear? Or do you want to be an achiever, who wakes up many years from now feeling better than you have each morning for the past decade, glad for every minute you have in this life, and so content that all those years ago, you made the RIGHT decision and although it was hard for a while, you accomplished something crucial and enriching in your life? And through the hardship of quitting the habit, you gained so many qualities, so much motivation and self-belief that you just KNOW nothing will ever grip hold of your mind again like nicotine did all those years ago.

It is your choice, nobody can choose for you, though if they could, I would bet that everyone you know would choose for you to stop smoking. You must now choose between a bright future, or one full of a sense of failure and regret, and ill-health of course. Make that choice NOW. I have a friend who lives his life around one motto, that is “There is no such thing as time, there is only NOW, and there is no such thing as try, only DO”. Yep, you guessed it, he is an ex-smoker too, and he has been twice the man he was ever since he stopped smoking because he swelled up with a sense of achievement and pride in himself.

It is just around the corner, all you have to do is take the steps and know you will get there, because if you want to, you WILL get there, and you will be amazed at how easy it actually was.

Don't think, just DO.

I will leave you with details of what happens to your body from the very minute you stub out your last cigarette…..

Twenty minutes after your last cigarette, your blood pressure and your pulse will return to normal.

Eight hours later your oxygen levels in your blood will return to normal.

Twelve hours later the carbon monoxide levels in your blood will be decreasing and after thirty-six hours they are the same as a non-smoker.

Twenty-four hours later the risks of you having a heart attack has begun to decrease.

Thirty-six hours later your nerve endings are beginning to grow again.

Three days later your sense of smell and taste have been restored and you feel energetic and breathing is improved.

Two weeks later your circulation is beginning to improve and your skin will take on a healthy glow.

Three months later your lungs have rid themselves of all the rubbish and the coughing and wheezing is decreasing.

One year later your risk of having a heart attack has dropped by half.

All this from simply saying NO to nicotine, and saving a ton of money in the process. Sounds like a good deal to me!
