“Movie Smoking”

It's Friday night, you relax, turn on the television and begin watching a really great movie. The main character lights up and you decide that you just have to have a cigarette. Sound familiar? Even with all of the negative press about smoking and the influence television and movies have on people, many characters in movies smoke. For some of us out there, the reality is that when you see someone smoking, and enjoying it, you intrinsically begin to crave a cigarette. It may not be the nicotine as much as it is the habit. So, how do you keep yourself motivated and on this great quest to kick the habit?

 

First, turn the channel. If you really want to see the movie, watch it again when you are further along in this quest. Granted, you may never get over the desire to smoke, but if you aren't reminded, you can keep it in the background of your thoughts. Second, keep yourself busy. Clean your house. Write a letter. Surf the net. Make dinner. Play with your child. Go for a walk. Talk to your spouse. Although these suggestions may seem common place, simply getting your mind off of what you just watched will help you get over the craving. Enjoy your next movie night!
