“Legislating An End To Smoking”
These days it is pretty apparent that smokers are a target of your legislature and municipal governments. While I have heard all the arguments that smoking is a choice that people make and something that government doesn't need to stick its nose in, it is clear that our representatives don't care. Mainly because they are creatures of the majority and the majority doesn't smoke. However, this may not be a bad thing for those of you wanting to quit but just haven't been able too because of the smoke filled environments you frequent. In fact, these laws prohibiting smoking in public places may be one of the biggest allies in your attempt to quit.
Think about it, how many times have you been in a bar or restaurant and smelled the smoke all around you and been overwhelmed with the desire to grab the nearest cigarette. If the place you were at didn't allow smoking would you still have that craving? My guess is, probably not. While we may want to complain about these laws being unconstitutional and an infringement on your God given right to smoke, it is the best thing that could happen to a person trying to quit the habit. Therefore, the next time you hear about legislation to “take away your rights as a smoker” maybe you should just sit back and let it happen because in the end we may all be better off.
