Quit Smoking Right Now

“Keep A Journal”

Whether this is your very first time trying to quit or your twentieth time, a journal can help. Why keep a journal? There are many different reasons for writing down your thoughts while in the process of quitting. First and foremost, it is a distraction. Likely you will only write in your journal when you are craving a cigarette and this works to get your mind off the desire to smoke. Just writing your feelings every time you want a smoke for a few minutes can effectively get you passed a weak moment. When writing you should concentrate on the emotions that you feel at that time and why it is that you think a cigarette will make you happier. Think about the positives from not lighting up that cigarette and what you can do instead that is more productive.

If you fail at your attempt to stop smoking, but you kept a journal, then you can go back to it and see what you wrote. Often times this will prove to be a very eye opening experience. It will reveal what type of internal argument was going on when you had a craving. Hopefully by studying this, the next time you encounter that internal argument you will be better prepared for it. You will also know what works and what doesn't work. Further, once you have officially quit you can read through it and congratulate yourself on a job well done!

…to your freedom…
