“Change Your Routine” 

Quitting smoking is by all accounts among one of the hardest things anyone can do in their life. It is frequently said that the hardest part of quitting is breaking the daily routine of smoking. If you have been smoking for years then you likely have several points in the day that, “you always have a cigarette.” It is something that you have done for such a long time that you don't remember what you did before you smoked at that time of the day. The most common examples are after eating, on the drive to work or during your 15 minute break in the afternoon, etc. Whatever it may be, there are times that just don't seem right without a cigarette in your hand.

 

 

The solution to this dilemma is to completely change your routine after you have made the resolution to quit. This is not as hard to do as it may seem. If you are used to lighting up after a meal, instead of automatically grabbing for your cigs after you finish eating, take a walk or treat yourself to a scoop of your favourite ice cream. If you always smoke in your car, chew some gum instead or drink an energy drink. Try a different way to work or even take public transportation. If it is your break that is the problem go to a different part of the building and read a magazine or book while drinking a soda. The point is that you have to get out of the routine which reminds you of smoking. There are a million ways to do this and you just have to come up with some creative alternatives.
