Text Version: Hello and welcome back to this Stop Smoking Audio series, “The Compound Benefits of Exercise” Exercise is completely incompatible with smoking. Exercise relieves stress and helps your body recover from years of damage from cigarettes. Whatever your fitness level, your age, your gender or your lifestyle, ANYBODY can begin exercising. From a morning walk round the block, to a jog and swim every day, it does not matter. All that matters is that the exercise you do brings you into a mild sweat and makes your lungs work faster than normal. In addition your heart will then beat faster and this is the beginning of the process of getting fit. Once you feel an improvement in your physical fitness, which can start showing after just one or two exercise sessions, you will be filled with natural ‘feelgood' chemicals as your body begins to work a little harder. If necessary, start slow, with a short walk once or twice per day. Build up to 30 to 40 minutes of rigorous activity, 3 or 4 times per week. Always consult your physician before beginning any exercise program. If you don't feel good about exercise for any reason, or if you feel dizzy, stop immediately and seek professional medical advice. If you are very unfit it is always a good idea to get a thorough health check before you begin any form of exercise, and it is useful to know what your blood pressure and pulse is like etcetera so you know whether you are safe to go ahead and start making your body work off the years of damage which smoking gave you. Exercise is a wonderful thing, you don't have to go hard at it, but a good stiff walk in the morning air will set you up for the day nicely, and you will be FAR less likely to even think of smoking when you start your day on a good note like that.
